started as a firecracker in my head in June of 1997. That's
when I first started looking for a web domain that I could use
to create a site dedicated to the creative mind.
The vision I had was to put something on the web that
I'd personally like to visit every now and again, and maybe
learn a thing or two. I wanted to start an online community
of creative people that could get together and help one another
with anything from music to painting to theatre to art.
Since then, I've struggled to put time into learning the
web and refining the idea. In the end, I decided to
stick much closer to what I know, and even closer to where
my interests lie.
That meant COMICS! Over the next several
months of limited free time, I've come back again and again
to redefine and re-think what would eventually become Figma.com.
I finally decided to at least finish this aspect
of the site. I've seen and enjoyed other sites on the
internet dedicated to showcasing aspiring and/or established
comic artists and illustrators, but none seem to do it the
way I feel it should be done. So, hopefully I can do
that here... and with any luck, it can surpass everyone's
expectations.
These days the site is still here at Figma.com, but
we also answer to the net-name TheDrawingBoard.com,
and it seems to be something people find easy to remember.
Slowly but surely, Figma will expand, and include other sites
under its umbrella... but as that happens, The DrawingBoard
will continue to be one of them!
In
the interest of making a cooler site... I hear the best thing
is getting some FEEDBACK!
So, gimme some, and let me know what you like, what
you don't, and what you'd like to see!
Oh, yeah... and though I'm the "janitor" around
here... your "host" here at the DrawingBoard
is really this strange creature I met the other day.
Refers to itself as the
Figma. It could easily be a product of my
twisted imagination, but Figma made such a convincing argument,
I couldn't help myself. So anywhere you hear "the website"
talking, it's more than likely the
Figma. Allows me to step-back and concentrate on
the fun stuff! Ciao!
