The utilities
listed here on The DrawingBoard's sidebars and menus are ones
that in some way help artists and writers use the internet
to their advantage. Below are some down-to-earth descriptions
of each of these tools:
MyMail:
By now, everyone has heard of free email accounts on the internet.
This isn't anything new. Just like HotMail, Excite, or any
number of web-based free email services, MyMail @ TheDrawingBoard.com
is meant to provide an easy place for people to access their
personal correspondences online. You can even set up an account
to read a number of regular email accounts (from your normal
ISP), putting it all in one place and available anywhere you
can access a web browser. It's free, it's handy, its fun.
Give it a try. http://mymail.thedrawingboard.com

FreeDrive:
Best to start by saying what FreeDrive is NOT. FreeDrive
is NOT a free web page service. You can't load your images
and/or HTML onto this and expect everyone to be able to grab
them. That's what free
web hosting is for. FreeDrive is your own, private/public
hard drive for communicating with potential clients, friends,
or what have you. Basically, when you set up your FreeDrive,
you can upload up to 50 Megabytes worth of information to
it (images, mp3 files, text documents, etc...). At any time,
you can update, alter, and give people access to this information
as you see fit.
Example:
You're working on the latest pages of "UltraGirl
Unlimited" and you need to get your colored pages
to the editor. She's got internet access, so... you could
email them to her... but you KNOW how much a pain huge
files can be coming through email! Instead, using FreeDrive
you can upload all the files, and simply email her a URL at
which she can access them at her leisure.
Everybody's happy!
- Eliminate
your need to carry around floppy disks and external drives
- Back
up your critical data (e.g., on-line taxes, presentations)
- Share
pictures with your friends and family
- Share
documents with clients or classmates
Everyone who uses the
FreeDrive system has to register with them in order to access
any of the files, but once you're in, you're all set. Think
of it as the ICQ of Internet hardrive space. Managing
your files is quick and very easy. FreeDrive is like
your own personal FTP site, or public folder on the Internet.
When you sign-in, you just supply your email address
and as much information as you care to disclose (would that
we could control what they asked...). If you don't
have an existing e-mail account (or don't want to use it to
link to this service), you can sign-up for a free e-mail with
The DrawingBoard (as described above). Simple, huh?
Search:
Still Under Development -- Search-A-Saurus REX. This link
is the home of the most versatile search forms around. The
aim of this search form (note: its NOT a search engine
by any means!) is to allow creators to quickly get to
the information they need.
- Need a translation?
- Need to find a book?
- Need information
of an existing character?
- Need photo reference?
- Need to do research
on something?
- Want to know who
someone is?
All of these questions
and many more will be answerable through this form. Kind of
like the "Ask Jeeves" of the Comics web. Now...
its still starting out, so give it some room to grow, but
we're sure you'll find it useful. Please email
us with your problems or suggestions!
