UK Online Safety Act
Aim of the Act
The Online Safety Act (“OSA”) is a set of UK laws designed to make the internet safer for both children and adults. It imposes new duties on certain online service providers, to reduce illegal and harmful content, strengthen age-appropriate protections and give users greater control over what they see online.
Who does it apply to
The OSA applies to providers of online user-to-user services, search services and adult content providers which have links to the UK, even if those providing the services are located outside of the UK.
Key requirements
General obligations of the OSA require providers to:
- Assess the risk of illegal content appearing on the service and keep written records of this.
- Prevent, detect and remove illegal and harmful content online.
- Enable users to report illegal or harmful content and provide an appropriate complaints procedure.
Overview of our compliance approach
Some of Figma's services enable collaborative creation and user generated content features. Those services are treated as user-to-user services under the UK OSA.
In relation to those services:
- Figma has conducted risk assessments as required by the Act, including a thorough risk assessment of all 17 priority illegal harms as required by the Act.
- Figma has conducted a child risk assessment as required by the OSA.
- Figma has a content moderation system in place which screens for the types of harm set out in the OSA.
- Figma also has a reporting function to allow users to report illegal or harmful content.
